Yesterday I showed you how to use Watercolor Wonder Crayons with a Blender Pen. I love the (retiring!) Boatloads of Love set--I've used it often.
One problem, though, happens when stamping it to cut out--what to do about the antenna?
It's a common problem in stamping--you stamp on a background color you want, but there are some single line parts to the image that are HARD to cut out. One method is to carefully cut them out with some precise scissors (SU!'s Paper Snips are great for this!)
Another way is to use the Stamp-a-ma-jig. You know the SAMJ as a great way to get precise placement for 2-step stamping and for lettering with alphabet stamps. Its precise placement feature is great for "cheating," too!
I wanted to put my ship on
Pacific Point "water," and with
Baja Breeze sky behind it. In order to get the crisp, clean look for the boat, though, I stamped it on
Whisper White.
This meant that I had to cut out the boat and then put it on the Baja Breeze cardstock. I debated cutting out the antenna...
The problem is, when cutting thin lines like that, you need to cut very close to the lines so that no white shows.
Sometimes it's forgiveable to have a bit of the paper show, but here I just didn't want that.
So I cut it off completely when I cut out the ship.
I got out my trusty Stamp-a-ma-jig. I admit I'm not showing the SAMJ much in the photo. Mine is not the beautiful black color you get when you order yours directly from Stampin' Up!
Place the imaging sheet (clear card that comes with the SAMJ) in your favored corner of the SAMJ. Then ink up your stamp, place it in that same corner, and stamp it onto the sheet.
Here I stamped the entire boat in Pacific Point--since it was just for reference, I didn't worry about stamping in the actual color I would need.
Notice that I didn't even stamp the entire image--I knew I didn't need it all.
Then I took the SAMJ and lined up the imaging sheet and SAMJ so that the lines on the imaging sheet were lined up with the ship lines I'd already stamped and colored with the Watercolor Crayons.
You can see that in this photo of the ship--the antenna looks blue because it is--it's the one I stamped on the SAMJ imaging sheet with Pacific Point ink. The imaging sheet is on top of the stamped image.
I hope you can see that I've lined up the images. If you can't maybe that's better--it shows that I did a good job lining things up just right.
I only wanted the antenna to stamp this second time (since I'd already stamped and colored the ship).
I used my Basic Black Stampin' Write marker and brushed the wide tip onto only the antenna of the ship.
You can see that in this photo of the rubber side of the ship.
After aligning the imaging sheet (with the boat image) and SAMJ onto my stamped boat, I removed the imaging sheet--keeping the SAMJ itself in place..
It's important to "huff" (a heavy outward breath through the mouth) on the rubber so that the ink (from the marker onto the rubber) stays moist.
Then I put the rubber stamp in the corner of the SAMJ and stamped--the antenna was just where it needed to be!
